The foodstuff industry places the highest requirements with regard to hygiene, cleanliness and corrosion protection on the products and components that it uses. That is why stainless steel is the material mainly used in plant for the manufacture of foodstuffs. Here’s a good example: The sensors used in this area usually consist of one-piece, enclosed, stainless-steel housings – that is the only way to ensure highest protection and durability.
With the M12 Steel, Murrelektronik has developed an M12 sensor plug connector that meets the stringent requirements of the foodstuffs industry. It conforms to protection classes IP68 and IP69K. The M12 Steel can be washed down with acidic and lye cleaning agents, and is corrosion-resistant.
These high-quality characteristics are made possible by the plug’s completely stainless-steel housing. For this, Murrelektronik has developed a hitherto unique manufacturing process for M12 plugs. Up to now, these have always been extrusion-coated, but Murrelektronik has trodden a completely new path with the production of the M12 Steel. The housing consists of a deep-drawn sleeve, which is compound-filled after assembly of the contact bearer. The result is a plug connector in V4A stainless-steel quality with a coupling ring.
There are a large number of variants of the M12 Steel. In the quality of the cable, there is a choice between PVC and the foodstuff-compatible Santoprene ® 271. Sockets with open cable ends are available, as are connecting cables in lengths of 1.5 through 50 meters. In further phases, angled variants, passive distributors and shielded variants will become available.
