We're continuing our series on IO-Link. This week we are asking Rafael Calamari, Director of Automation, why IO-Link?
That is very simple. IO-Link contributes to the increase in profitability, efficiency, and machine availability. IO-Link reduces overall hardware costs. Analog signals are replaced by digital ones, eliminating the need for shielded cables and multiple types of expensive analog cards. IO-Link devices can also provide much more information than just distance, pressure or temperature. These devices provide real-time feedback in the event of a fault. This allows service technicians to troubleshoot much faster and considerably reduce downtime. IO-Link devices are also capable of providing information about themselves and the environment around them to controllers through IO-Link masters, such Murrelektronik’s brand-new IMPACT67 PRO with 8 IO-link master ports. This way, preventive maintenance can be scheduled and, consequently, have a direct impact on productivity.
